Today is Social Saturday, a day raising awareness of social enterprises, businesses set up with social goals and not private profit in mind.
There are approaching 100,000 social enterprises in the UK, helping communities across the length and breadth of the country.
Not only do social enterprises benefit communities through their social goals, but due to their typically smaller size, money spent in social enterprises tends to provide a bigger boost to local economies and helps to promote greater overall economic resiliency by diversifying the range of models operating in the economy.
As part of Social Saturday, people are asked as consumers to try swapping some of their usual purchases for products from social enterprises. In doing so, we can provide greater support for local communities at next to zero impact to ourselves.
