Crawley Labour council cabinet members have welcomed 14.6 million pounds of Local Growth Funding from the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership.
Crawley’s Labour council has been working with partners at West Sussex County Council for the last three years to secure this grant funding from the C2CLEP. The approval by the LEP board represents a vote of confidence in the Crawley Growth package developed by Crawley Borough Council in conjunction with WSCC and business leaders from Manor Royal Business District and forms part of a total public and private investment package of 60mn pounds in Crawley’s future.
The funding will help to deliver infrastructure designed to support more homes, jobs and economic growth in Crawley. Schemes include delivery of several major initiatives:
• additional high quality office space in Crawley Town centre
• improvements to the streets and public areas in Queensway, Station Way, College Way and the Boulevard
• improved sustainable transport links between Gatwick, Three Bridges and Crawley stations and Manor Royal
• new forecourt for Three Bridges station
The programme is expected to unlock a total of 250 million pounds of investment when additional private sector investment is added in and will begin delivery immediately taking several years to complete. This ambitious investment supports our other key policy initiatives to deliver improved job prospects, better training and more opportunities for Crawley residents.
Council Leader Peter Lamb said:
“This vote of confidence in Crawley by public and private investors is very welcome, regenerating our Town Centre, enabling us to provide more affordable housing for Crawley residents and ensuring we have more and better jobs for local people for years to come.”
Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development at Crawley Borough Councillor Peter Smith said:
“This grant is the culmination of much hard work over the last three years and will help to secure Crawley’s continued growth in the future. By working to improve our environment and together with our Crawley businesses we will see more and better opportunities coming forward for our Crawley residents as a direct result. This is thanks to Crawley Labour council’s determination to deliver for Crawley!”
