Following the news that Morrisons plans to close their store on Ifield Drive Parade, resulting in a loss of the post office facilities currently provided within the store, Peter Lamb MP has been working to ensure that post office facilities will return to the neighbourhood.
Local post offices play an essential role in not only enabling people to send post, but also the ability to access a range of government services, banking, insurance and bill payments.
Following the news of the closure of Morrisons Daily, Peter Lamb has been in contact with both the Minister responsible for postal services and Post Office Ltd, and the government will be requiring a new post office service to open within the area to replace what is being lost at Morrisons.
Once a final decision on the new provider has been taken, details will be publicised.
Peter Lamb, Labour MP for Crawley said:
“Post Offices provide a vital public service and I have campaigned to maintain and improve provision in the town for many years, including leading the campaign opposing the closure of the old Crown Post Office.”
“This is far from the first time Crawley has been let down by Morrisons, but while the current disruption is disappointing, I am glad that the Minister has confirmed to me that decisions he is taking will ensure a new post office service will be replacing that being lost as soon as possible.”
