Peter Lamb, Member of Parliament for Crawley, has welcomed the Labour Government’s latest package of measures to boost the UK’s energy security and accelerate the transition to clean power, in response to growing instability in the Middle East.
The announcement comes as the UK faces its second fossil fuel price spike in less than five years, underlining the urgency of reducing reliance on volatile global energy markets.
The Government’s package sets out a series of steps to accelerate the roll-out of renewable energy and electrify home heating and transport—helping to shield households and businesses from future price shocks.
The measures announced this week include major planning reforms to speed up clean energy deployment, alongside new incentives to help households adopt solar panels, electric vehicles and heat pumps. The package also takes significant steps towards delinking electricity prices from the cost of gas.
Key policies in the package include faster energy efficiency upgrades for social housing residents, backed by an additional £100 million investment in the £1.2 billion Social Housing.
Welcoming the measures, Crawley MP Peter Lamb said:
“The UK’s reliance upon fossil fuels is the biggest weakness in our national defence. The Government has acted to free the UK from our dependence upon unstable regions and states, by speeding up the transition to clean, homegrown energy. At the same time, by weakening the link between electricity prices and the cost of gas, we help make energy more affordable for all.”
