After 33 years, today Crawley’s rail services go back into public ownership.
It’s not a magical fix, but for the first time in decades it is the country and not shareholders who are the sole focus of our rail service.
The Government already froze rail fares this year for the first time in 30 years, let’s hope that’s the start of an increased focus on the needs of passengers.
Rail plays an increasingly important role in meeting Crawley’s economic and travel needs, but we are on course to run out of capacity by 2030.
Fortunately, we already know the works which are needed and that long-term they are cost-neutral.
I am working with other MPs in affected areas to secure the up-front investment necessary to deliver the capacity we need, so the our GB Rail services can keep the nation moving.
