Peter Lamb MP Demands Reinstatement of 24-Hour Urgent Treatment Centre at Crawley Hospital

Local MP Peter Lamb has today called on NHS Sussex to urgently reinstate 24-hour urgent treatment services at Crawley Hospital, following the decision to reduce the operating hours of the hospital’s Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).

The reduction in hours has raised serious concerns among local residents about access to urgent healthcare, particularly during evenings and overnight, when alternative services are limited and travel to other hospitals can be difficult.

Mr Lamb, who had already moved an Early Day Motion objecting to the changes, raised the issue directly in the UK House of Commons, pressing the Government on the impact the decision is having on Crawley residents and demanding urgent action to restore round-the-clock provision.

In response, Health Minister Karin Smyth agreed to meet with Mr Lamb to discuss the situation and hear directly the strength of feeling within the community.

Commenting, Peter Lamb MP said:

“Local health authorities committed to delivering a 24-hour Urgent Treatment Centre in Crawley at the time the A&E was closed. They are breaking that promise. I have significant concerns around the way the trial has been evaluted and I intend to hold the decision-makers to account using every mechanism at my disposal. Crawley residents deserve better.”

Mr Lamb has urged NHS Sussex to work transparently with local stakeholders and to fully assess the impact on patient safety, waiting times, and pressure on neighbouring A&E departments.

He added that he will continue to campaign alongside residents, local clinicians, and community groups until 24-hour urgent treatment services are restored at Crawley Hospital.
