Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Questions – 20/01/26

Crawley has the largest per capita Tamil population in the country outside of London. I have known and worked with the local Tamil population for many years and last Saturday I was privileged to be a guest of honour at one of the local Tamil school’s Thai Pongal celebration, where I was given a copy of ‘Still Counting the Dead’ a harrowing account of the Tamil civilian death toll during the Sri Lankan civil war.

Tamil Heritage Month takes place every January, as a means of helping to preserve the culture in exile and remembering the attempts at ethnic cleansing the people have faced-off for decades. With Foreign Office Questions this week, I took the opportunity to ask the minister what the UK was doing to try to secure justice for the Tamil people.
