Why I’m running for election and why I need your support…

The General Election has now been called and I will be running as the Labour Party’s candidate.

Crawley is my home. I was born here, went to school here, and I’m now raising my own family here. I love our town and believe there is so much about Crawley that is great, which is precisely why watching the harm done to local families and services over the last 14 years has been so painful.

Despite facing the harshest funding cuts from central government on record, as Leader of Crawley Borough Council I did everything possible to protect frontline services, while delivering a return to large-scale council house building, and working with partners to secure the highest concentration of jobs in the country outside of London.

Unfortunately, there is a limit to what can be done on the ground. It is only by changing policy nationally that we can now deliver the improvements we all want for our families, our community, and our country. After 16 years of fighting for Crawley on the ground, I’m asking for your vote because I care about our town, because I understand the problems we face in detail, and because I know what is now needed from Government to fix them.

If elected on Thursday 4th July, I will get to work on day one to deliver:

  • A thriving local economy and support for the town centre
  • Housing which delivers for local people
  • A better future for Crawley’s children
  • Real action on crime and antisocial behaviour
  • A better-resourced NHS that’s there when you need it

I can’t promise that this will be easy or that there won’t be challenges along the way, but I hope after my years of service people know me as someone who is honest, someone who really cares about the town, and someone who will always do his best for Crawley.

With best wishes,

Peter Lamb
Labour candidate for Crawley
