14 years of Conservative Government has seen economic stagnation. Right now, the UK is in the midst of its longest unbroken run of falling GDP per capita–the monetary value of goods produced per person–since records began in 1955. The end result is that, due to the policies of our Government, British workers are now £10,000 per year worse off.
A Labour Government will focus on delivering economic growth and ensuring that the benefits of growth are felt by the average worker through our New Deal for Working People.
Within 100 days of taking office, Labour will bring forward an Employment Rights Bill to:
- Ban zero-hour contracts
- End fire and rehire
- Ensure a genuine living wage
- Guarantee basic rights from day one
- Give you stronger, properly enforced, protections at work
- Strengthen sick pay and extend it to low paid workers
- Tackle the gender pay gap
For far too long the Conservatives have trapped working peole in a race to the bottom with insecure work and economic stagnation. Only Labour has a plan to deliver both deliver the economic growth and the employment rights we need to give Britain its future back.
