Last year, the Department of Education admitted to miscalculating the amount of funding due to be granted to state schools in England, starting from next September, an error to the tune of £370m.
A quick look at the updated funding figures reveals that schools across the West Sussex Education Authority area will be on average £22k worse off or £50 per pupil down next year due to the Government’s error. A combined total loss for education in the county of £5,762,419.
For schools which have already been forced to stretch every penny to make ends meet after years of cuts, this will only increase the pain, with local children ultimately paying the price.
Labour are committed to shattering the class ceiling—something sorely needed in Crawley where we have the lowest social mobility in the entire South East, giving every child the chance to succeed on their own merits.
This starts with recruiting over 6,500 more teachers and putting mental health support into schools, funded by ending the VAT tax break on private schools.
