The release of the latest figures for elective operations cancelled for non-clinical reasons at the last minute have revealed a staggering growth in the number of patients missing out on treatment in the Crawley area.
Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust hospitals reported 212 cancellations over the last quarter, compared to 29 cancellations for the same quarter the previous year, an increase of 731%.
While emergency procedures are not covered by the figures, elective operations address a wide-range of serious conditions which stand to improve patients’ quality of life and may, if left untreated, progress to an emergency. Every cancellation has a real impact for those seeking treatment and their families.
People deserve better, which is why the next Labour Government will deliver a costed 10-year plan of investment and modernisation to dramatically improve NHS delivery for patients across the country.
The work of the last Labour government cut NHS dissatisfaction from 50% to 18%. Turning the NHS around is possible. We did it before. We can do it again.
