Local support for earthquake victims

I know that many local residents have been shocked by the human impact Turkey-Syria Earthquake, a disaster which has so far cost an identified 11,000 lives with tens of thousands of further bodies likely still to be found in the rubble.

Across our community, people have been racing to respond, knowing that international aid will help to prevent the death toll from rising further and that others are looking for ways to provide support.

Tomorrow (Friday 9th Feb) a container will be leaving Crawley at 1pm for Turkey, departing from Troy Broadfield, 10 Broadfield Place, Crawley, RH11 9BA. They urgently need blankets, nappies, halal baby food (not in glass jars), warm clothes and sleeping bags. For practical reasons, they cannot accept duvets or food items.

If you would like to provide financial support, most international and Islamic aid organisations are currently running appeals. I’m not best placed to advise on which to donate to, but I would recommend that people read this page before donating to any organisation they are unfamiliar with to ensure that their money goes to help those on the ground: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/regulators-urge-safe-giving-to-support-turkey-syria-earthquake-relief-effort

Many thanks for any support you can offer.
