The campaign to win back Crawley starts here…

This morning, I officially launched my campaign to be re-selected as Labour’s candidate for Crawley, so that together we can finish the job of removing the Tories from office and building a better future for our community.

Crawley is my home and for the last 15 years, I have dedicated my life to serving our community and local party. As Labour Group Leader, I led Labour back into control of Crawley Borough Council after eight years in opposition, helped the party beat the national swing at every set of local elections, and maintained a Labour administration through two tough years of No Overall Control. While the last General Election didn’t produce the result we hoped for, in Crawley we still delivered a record level of campaign activity, beating every other Labour target in the region.

Yet, none of us joined the party just to fight elections, we got involved because we wanted to see real change. While we can’t take the next election for granted, with Labour in its best place to win in Crawley for seventeen years, we’re not just selecting a face for our campaign but choosing our next Member of Parliament, the person we hope will deliver for us in office.

I’m standing in this contest as someone who knows and loves the town, as someone with a long history of advocating and delivering for Crawley, and as someone with a proven track-record of involving local party members in decision-making. I hope I can count on your support.

Party rules mean that at this point in the selection I don’t have access to a Labour membership list, but I believe every Labour member has the right to be included in this process from the start.
