Pakistan Flood Relief: Help Needed

A third of Pakistan is currently underwater. Given the scale of the disaster, our common humanity alone should be sufficient to justify strong international support for Pakistan as the country first works to deal with the ongoing crisis and then starts to rebuilt. Yet, while international commitments have been made, so far the amounts being discussed have been paltry compared to the scale of the damage done. All too often people forget the lives affected by every international aid cut, the reality is that human suffering is always the eventual result.

With Crawley being such a diverse town, there will be many in our community–friends, colleagues and neighbours–who have friends and family directly affected by the flooding in Pakistan. We should offer them whatever we can to provide them with the support they need during this difficult time. I know that there is a local group being set up to co-ordinate fundraising efforts for the affected region and I hope that once it is up-and-running people will be prepared to get involved.

In the meantime, the Punjabi Government has set up a dedicated page through which people can donate directly. If you can offer any support, even if it is just sharing the link, then please do whatever you can to help make a difference: https://floodrelief2022.punjab.gov.pk/
